Desktop App Gmail Login Guide

Good news — this issue has been fixed! 🎉

As of v1.0.9, we've upgraded our authentication system. You can now sign in with Google on the desktop app using a single click — no more manual password entry or passkey prompts.

The desktop app now opens your system browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.) for Google sign-in, which means you get full access to saved passwords, biometrics, and passkeys — just like signing in on any normal website.

How it works now

1
Click Sign in with Google
In the desktop app, click the Google sign-in button. Your default system browser will open automatically.
2
Sign in as usual
Complete Google sign-in in your browser — passkeys, biometrics, and saved passwords all work normally.
3
Return to the app
After sign-in, the browser redirects back to the desktop app automatically. You're all set.

For existing users

This update involved an authentication system migration. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account and data are safe. All your existing rooms, subscription plans, and billing information are fully preserved.
  • You will need to sign in again. Your previous session will no longer be valid after the update. Simply sign in with the same Google account and everything will be right where you left it.
  • No re-registration required. The system recognizes your existing account by email — your first sign-in after the update will automatically re-link your Google account.

Previous issue (resolved)

What was the problem?

Our desktop app previously used a built-in sign-in window that wasn't fully compatible with Google's security requirements, causing:

  • The "Complete sign-in using your passkey" prompt to appear, but with no way to use biometrics
  • Users had to click "Try another way" and manually type their Gmail password
  • Intermittent login failures in certain environments

We resolved this by upgrading our sign-in flow to open your system browser, which is fully supported by Google.
