Having trouble seeing the pad on your screen? Here are the most common causes and how to fix them.

Common Causes

Temporary rendering glitch — The pad's window can occasionally fail to render after your OS wakes from sleep or after a display change.
The pad opacity is set low — You may have previously adjusted the opacity slider down.
Frosted glass on an older Windows — See below. This one looks like the opacity slider has stopped working.
Outdated app version — Older versions may have display bugs that have since been fixed.

The pad stays dark on Windows, and the opacity slider does nothing

If you are on Windows 10 or a Windows 11 build older than 22H2, and the pad shows a solid dark panel that will not fade however far down you drag the opacity slider, the cause is the Frosted glass setting.

Frosted glass asks Windows to blur whatever sits behind the pad. That blur is a Windows 11 22H2 feature, and on older builds Windows simply does not provide it — but the pad still holds back some opacity to keep the text readable against a blur that never arrives. The result is a dark layer the slider cannot remove.

The fix: open the pad's footer menu and turn Frosted glass off. The opacity slider goes back to full range immediately, and the pad becomes as see-through as you want.

Version 1.1.1 and later handle this for you: on a system that cannot blur, the pad skips frosted glass entirely and the setting no longer appears. If you would rather not change the setting by hand, updating the app resolves it.

To check your Windows build, press Win + R, type winver, and press Enter. A build number below 22621 means frosted glass cannot work on that machine.

Troubleshooting Steps

Restart the app

Quit and reopen Codex Interview. This resolves most rendering glitches.

Check the opacity slider

Open the app's footer panel and make sure the opacity slider is not set too low. Drag it back up to restore visibility.

On Windows, turn off Frosted glass

In the footer menu, switch Frosted glass off. On Windows 10 and pre-22H2 Windows 11 it holds back opacity for a blur the system cannot render, which reads as a dark panel the slider cannot clear.

Update to the latest version

Download the latest version from codexinterview.com to make sure you have the most recent bug fixes.

Reinstall the app

If none of the above steps work, uninstall and reinstall the app. This resets any corrupted local state.
